So.... just what is this, "sub" "deck" anyway?

Starter decks don't use the sub-deck and for your first few games, we also don't recommend using one.  However, once you're ready to advance your game, the sub-deck is key to victory!  A sub-deck is a collection of cards that can be searched for during a game, but mostly Weapons and Spells.  Unlike your main deck which can hold up to 50 cards, the sub-deck can only hold 0 -15 cards.  You can look through your sub-deck at any time and don't shuffle it like your regular deck.  So just how do you use it?
Well, as mentioned, it's mostly for weapons and spells.  Let's take Cherry for example.  She has the skill known as "Swordplay".  It's that little sword symbol to the far left of her level.  This allows her to be linked with one weapon.  Weapons are like equipment cards, except you need the swordplay skill to be linked with them and you can only be linked with 1 weapon at a time.
HOW TO LINK A WEAPON TO YOUR CHARACTER?
As long as you have a character skilled with swordplay, you can give it any weapon in your sub-deck that you want!  Just think of it as your personal arsenal.  So, let's say you don't have enough offense to beat an opponent's character.  Well, all you have to do is look through your sub-deck for the Heavy Axe and you can get an instant offense boost + 20!  However, it will cost you a card from your hand when you threaten their character.

Just remember, you can only give your character 1 weapon per turn and they can only hold 1 weapon at a time.  Tired of the weapon you gave your character?  Well, on your following turn you can discard it and give it a different one!  Just be careful not to run through all of your weapons too fast.
WHAT DOES THE WITCHCRAFT SKILL DO?
The "Witchcraft" skill is the little star symbol to the far right of a character's level.  If your character has this skill, then it can cast spells.  You cast spells pretty similar to using weapons, except it has more of a cost.  You must first REST your character to link a spell to it.  Take this into consideration when deciding whether to attack with your character or perform a spell.

HOW TO LINK A SPELL TO YOUR CHARACTER?
Just like the swordplay skill, as long as you have a character skilled with witchcraft, you can give it any spell in your sub-deck that you want!  So if I want to cast the following spell called "Blazing Hands" I have to first, rest a character I have with the witchcraft skill, then I can cast the spell!  Blazing Hands will add 1 damage to any character which will lower the stats of that character - 10 / 10.  This spell works best with Mei (pronouced May) because she actually amplifies all damage cards which will add another damage to that character!!  To learn more about how to make a deck around her, check out the damage deck profile in the deck workshop.

DEFENSIVE SPELLS
Offensive spells work like items.  They use their ability then go away.  Defensive spells work like counters.  They can only be triggered at a specific time.  In order to use a defensive spell you must first have it linked to your witchcraft character in the standby position (face-down).  That way they don't know what you have.  I should also note that you can play any spell in standby and use it on a following turn.  This is helpful if you want to perform the spell and attack in the same turn.

The following card is called Caduceus.  Don't ask me how to pronounce that one.  Anyway, it says if any amount of damage is added to a character, remove all damage from it.  This is a great healing spell.  So if you expect your opponent might have a Proximity Mine, Napalm, or Blazing Hands up their sleeve, then this will surely take them by surprise!  Just remember, you must have it already linked to your character in order to use it.

EVERLASTING SPELLS
Not much to say about these other than that they are like the environments of spells.  They have a continuous ability that keeps working until discarded or the character dies.

I CAN PUT CHARACTERS IN MY SUB-DECK?!
There is actually 1 other special card in the game which lets you play a character right from the sub-deck!  It's called Seeds of Creation.  By discarding a card from your hand, you can play an extra character during your turn and it can be any character that you decided to put in your sub-deck!  You still have to also pay the MP cost of that character.  You can use characters that are already in you main deck to help get to them faster, or you can put in supporters like Scarlet, Panacea, or Charcoal Golem which are more useful in oddball situations.

Now that you know about the different kinds of cards that can go in a sub-deck, it's up to you to decide which to put in there.  Space it tight with only 15 cards and it's pretty easy to play a game and find out that you wish you had something you didn't.  Check out some of the different deck profiles in the deck workshop to view some of the sub-decks that each use.
